Sweet Sunday Sketch

I needed a quick card & I liked the sketch over at Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge, coming up with this:

The card base was from my stash; the patterned paper is from the Teresa Collins Urban Market pad, and the stamps were by Papertrey Ink & Paula Pascual  for Personal Impressions, inked up in Memento Paris Dusk. The embossing folder is by Papermania.

Sketch Saturday #341

A quick post for what was not a quick card!

A lovely neighbour of my Mum's passed away early on Christmas Day; Connie had been like a second grandmother to my family, often babysitting for us when we were young. This card is for her family.

I liked the simplicity of the sketch over at Sketch Saturday so I decided to play along, tweaking the sketch slightly to suit.

I started with a "twinchie" by Magenta Crafts which was bare chipboard. I used a couple of coats of gesso to provide a base for Distress Inks in Salty Ocean & Peacock Feathers. The stamped image is by Papertrey Ink from their Round & Round set. The background strip was made by playing with an Imagination Crafts stencil, the same Distress Inks & some water. I used the same stencil with some Black Soot Distress Ink for the leaves then kept the sentiment (again by Papertrey Ink) simple as I thought there was already enough going on.

Sunshine!

A quick post from me, this is my entry for this week's challenge over at Less Is More where the theme is "Little Creatures". I didn't think I had anything suitable until I came across the Tag-Its #3 set by Papertrey Ink which was purchased from that famous auction site some time ago.

I coloured the flowers with a mix of Aquamarkers then added the black flower centres afterwards. The bees were stamped in Versafine Onyx Black then coloured with a yellow Aquamarker. I added the black loops by hand then decided it was lacking something, so I sponged Distress Ink in Mustard Seed to give the impression of sunshine. I had intended for the overall effect to be more like a watercolour, hence the stamping was onto watercolour cardstock, but I decided that no-one would know what the little creatures were if they were too blurry!

G is for Games

Card makers often dread having to make cards for the male of the species. Add into the mix that the male concerned is a teenager and it's doubly difficult. Mo Manning has some great digis which make this task a whole lot easier and when I saw this one of a boy intent on his games I knew exactly who it would be perfect for.

The main part of the image was coloured with denim & pear green Promarkers, the green chosen because it matches Lettuce Adirondack ink - one of the few Adirondacks I've got, and which I was using to make my own backing paper.

The backing paper was made by using my Inkylicious Ink Dusters with a combination of Denim & Lettuce Adirondacks then random stamping using Papertrey Ink game-themed stamps. I'm entering this into the "G is for . . " challenge.

Not a Square!

As is usual with my son, he informed me yesterday that it's the 13th birthday of one of his friends today.  I suppose I should be grateful he at least told me the day before - he sometimes tells me about birthdays on the day itself!  As the two of them seem to lapse into game-speak the minute they meet, the theme for this card was an easy choice and an ideal opportunity to play with a recent Ebay purchase of some Papertrey Ink games stamps. I framed the greeting with a stamp by American Crafts.

I decided to play along with a couple of challenges again this week, I find this really helps my card designs come together a lot more quickly. The latest challenge at Less is More is a one layer card which mustn't be a square or rectangle.  As I don't have a cutting machine or any dies to make a card blank I had to keep it simple so I stuck with a hexagon as that was easy to achieve with an ordinary guillotine!  I also combined it with the sketch at Sketch Saturday & have discovered another challenge at Keep It Simple that I can enter it into as well.

I don't normally decorate the card inserts but I decided to use one of the individual stamps to add a little bit of detail for once.
